This has  been the fastest plane in the world since the late 1960s!  It can fly over 4,000 miles an hour.  It was retired and the last flight from LA to Washington DC was accomplished in just over two hours!

 

Even though the plane was retired, it was brought back into service as a test platform for NASA.
