How Does the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Work

The Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine contains messenger RNA (mRNA), which is genetic material. The vaccine contains a small piece of the SARS-CoV-2 virus's mRNA that instructs cells in the body to make the virus's distinctive "spike" protein. After a person receives this vaccine, their body produces copies of the spike protein, which does not cause disease, but triggers the immune system to learn to react defensively, producing an immune response against SARS-CoV-2.

First COVID-19 Vaccination - 2021.01.23

Based on evidence from clinical trials, the Moderna vaccine was 94.1% effective at preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 illness in people who received two doses who had no evidence of being previously infected.

Kristine Senglaup - RN, was my nurse and we hit it off instantly. Her assistant, a young black woman said she would love to take photos of me getting my COVID-19 vaccination. We laughed and talked for over 15 minutes. I gave them my card and later after the injection and was sitting in the outer room for half an hour to ensure I was alright, the young woman came back in and said she was already reviewing my web site on her phone, loved the page where I documented all the volcanoes I have visited over the years!

The first photo is the prep before the vaccination! The second photo has Christine ensuring my arm was ready for the injection by doing a cleansing!

The vaccine was loaded into the syring and Kristine was ready regardless of what I thought! And here I am with the needle in the arm! She said she made sure not to poke the needle into my shoulder bone, so nice of her!

Kristine had the bandaide ready for the final act. Then we both did a thumbs up and everyone in the room had a good laugh!

This is the main entrance and at one point there were about 30 people in line to answer questions and then had to wait to be called when their appointment was ready. I got there way to early and was told I had to wait for over an hour but later a man saw me walking around and said, tell them Andre told me that I should just go in early! I did and it worked but by then they had multiple people giving injections so they were moving very fast! My appointment was at 10:45 but they got me in at 9:30 a.m. And out by about 10:45!

This is the VA on the south side and it is the senior residence. Rooms looking south have a great view of the Pacific Ocean!

Second COVID-19 Vaccination - 2021.02.20

Based on evidence from clinical trials, the Moderna vaccine was 94.1% effective at preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 illness in people who received two doses who had no evidence of being previously infected.

It was still dark at 7:00 a.m. as I got up!

My appointment at at 9:15 a.m. and I got up early, dressed, and walked a mile to Geary to catch the 38 R Express! Walked a fifth of a mile to the VA and was very early. Last time they made me wait for over half an hour but this morning at about 8:15, an hour early, they said just go in early as hardly anyone is here right now! Great! So off to the second vaccination and as I was standing in line I asked if Kristine was working? They sat me down and went to look for her! After about five minutes she came over and cracked up, she said it is nice to be wanted. So off to the desk to be processed and then the second vaccination. It was given by Loi, another nurse while Kristine took photos!

After Kristine took some photos she told Loi we needed to do the thumbs up routine!

Loi filled out the COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card to prove I was vaccinated twice with the Moderna vaccine! Kristine said we had to do another photo shoot with the two of us doing the fingers up routine!
