Cocktails - LaVerne! Cocktails - Queen Mary II!
Chuck and Viriginia on the Queen Mary II on their Transatlantic cruise from South Hampton to New Jersey.

Over the last ten years we have been celebrating my birthdays all over the world. But this time Virginia decided to go on a cruise for her 83rd Birthday in 2022.

She wants to go on a cruise featuring fine dining on the Mediteraneum and the Atlantic Ocean!

We will visit Barcelona Spain, then on to other stops, the Canary Islands and on to New York!

We have been talking to our friend LaVerne and she told me she thought I was also going so she had someone to take the tours with, she is only 95 years young! Time will tell!

   Canary Islands Flag History

The Canary Islands Flag History flag of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands is a vertical tricolour of three equal bands of white, blue, and yellow.

The state flag includes the Coat of arms of the Canary Islands in the central band; the civil flag omits this. The designs were made official by the Statute of Autonomy of the Canarian Autonomous Community (Organic Law 10/82) on 16 August 1982.

The tricolour flag has its origins in the Canarias Libre movement of the 1960s. It was designed by Carmen Sarmiento and her sons Arturo and Jesus Cantero Sarmiento, and first displayed (in paper form) on 8 September 1961.

It combined the blue and white colours of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Province of Canary Islands) with the blue and yellow colours of the Province of Las Palmas.

Cruise to the Canary Islands!

Ponta Delgada, on Sao Miguel Island, is the capital of the Azores archipelago of Portugal. The striking, 3-arched city gates and the Gothic-style Church of St. Sebastian are near the harbor. The Convent and Chapel of Our Lady of Hope houses a revered image of Christ. The Carlos Machado Museum offers diverse artifacts of Azorean culture. The city is a gateway to the crater lakes of Sete Cidades, to the northwest.

   Canary Islands History

The Canary Islands (Spanish: Canarias, pronounced (ka'narjas), also known informally as the Canaries, is a Spanish archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, in a region known as Macaronesia. At their closest point to the African mainland, they are 100 kilometres (62 miles) west of Morocco. They are the southernmost of the autonomous communities of Spain, and are located in the African Tectonic Plate. The archipelago is economically and politically European, and is part of the European Union.
